Medical Training

Medical training at the Margaret Pyke Centre has been established for over 25 years. It is nationally recognised as one of the most comprehensive and effectively run training programmes in contraception and sexual & reproductive health care.

There are four levels of training and education provided:

DFSRH Diploma
The Margaret Pyke Centre runs the Course of 5 and delivers the Clinical Experience and Assessment component of the new Diploma of the Faculty of Sexual and Reproductive Healthcare (DFSRH) and Practical Training for the old syllabus DFSRH.

Special Skills Training:
We offer further theoretical and practical training holders of the Diploma (DFSRH) who wish to obtain skills and qualifications in intrauterine, subdermal contraceptives and educational skills as a trainer. Only doctors may apply to obtain these qualifications.

Advanced Symposia for updating :
We organise a series of 1 day symposia throughout the year covering many aspects of Sexual and Reproductive Health including contraception and gynaecology. These meetings are aimed at doctors and nurses working in Primary Care but are suitable for any one working in the field.

Special Skills Training for Nurses:
We offer a 1 day theoretical course for Specialist Nurses wishing to extend their role to incorporate the fitting of intrauterine devices. The theoretical component provides the basis for the practical training. It is essential for nurses attending this course to have identified local arrangements for practical training as we are unable to provide this.
